A Note to Readers and Trusted Adults

This book is for learning and practice. It helps young people notice feelings, think through everyday changes, communicate clearly and ask for help. It does not diagnose a condition or replace support from a parent, carer, teacher, school professional, doctor, counsellor or emergency service.

Some changes are disappointing. Some are unfair. Some are unsafe. A young person is never required to stay quiet, keep a dangerous secret, accept bullying, or solve an adult problem alone. When something feels unsafe, involves threats, abuse, coercion, discrimination, self-harm, serious illness or immediate danger, the right next step is to tell a trusted adult and use the appropriate local help route.

IMPORTANT Flexibility means finding a safe next step. It never means pretending harm is acceptable.

Adults using this book should protect each reader's privacy. Activities can be completed with invented or low-stakes examples. Nobody should be pressured to describe a sensitive experience in front of a group.
